Yes, Another Poll

I know, I know, but this one is process related as well. It's yet another disturbing result, again from Rasmussen. Their newest survey from New Mexico (September 8, 700 LV) shows McCain ahead in a state Obama is pretty much counting on:

McCain (R) 49 (+5)
Obama (D) 47 (-3)

As most of the surveys this year show Obama with a lead, this one result may simply be an outlier. The large Hispanic population in New Mexico should give Obama the advantage in this electoral climate, so in any case this might be a place to dump the cash he should be pulling out of North Carolina and Montana. But what do I know?

I don't know if I agree that Obama can count on the Hispanic vote as you suggest. Personal experience as well as all the coverage during the primary against Hillary Clinton suggest that historical animosity between African-Americans and Hispanics may cost Obama a significant portion of the Hispanic vote.

In a nation founded upon and still attempting to cling to the tenets of a constitutional democracy, those hoping to engage in constructive and meaningful political dialogue should try to remain mindful of the fundamental democratic premise of one citizen/one vote. The myth of “voter blocs” associated with gender, age bracket, ethnicity, sexual orientation, geographical or various other broadly applied affiliations must be recognized and dismissed as an artificial construct used to create and promote a divisive climate of identity politics in order to raise the level of emotional investment at the expense of a more reasoned critical analysis of the torrent of rhetoric aimed at manipulating the voter to cast a ballot undermining the best interests of both self and community. Only one voter may enter the booth at a time. Any talk of voter blocs serves to subvert, whether by intent or through ignorance, the very nature of the democratic electoral process. You cannot hope to reform a badly governed state while buying into the flawed paradigms of the current prevailing political culture. Assume that everything you know is wrong. Strike another match and start anew.

Well said sir. I just wanted to give an example of other polling misuse, aside from myths of completely predictable group voting dynamics. Today on Fox it was reported that the newest Rasmussen poll shows McCain 50% Obama 47%. On the Rasmussen website you see nothing but pro-McCain advertisements and "news" results. Just another "poll" for the purposes of manipulating the current political atmosphere. Who determined that 3000 people can represent 300 Million anyway?
